It has been the age of speed, it is still the age of the internet, but the age of energy is certainly beginning. Of course, society has needed fuels and electricity until now, but the need is growing strongly as we develop and refine the processes we use to survive, live comfortably and grow. In recent years, the global dialog has been on renewable energy.
With all this in mind, the time has come for the energy sector to rethink its mission and objectives, incorporating new targets, shifting towards long-term available sources and environmental protection. In Romania, the oil and gas sector is investing more and more in innovation and the development of new technologies which will enable the secure supply of energy to companies and the population, in compliance with new standards.
Gaz de România becomes Viitorul Energiei
In this context of accelerating the energy transition, the Gaz de România project has become Viitorul Energiei. This new identity reflects the direction in which we are heading and which is to be brought to the public's attention, in detail, through this new phase of the project.

Yes, because the energy transition brings together companies, academics, authorities, specialists, mass media to establish the lines of development, to put them into practice and make them known, to involve the general public. That is why the launch of the new identity took place during the Gaz de România Gala, in the presence of those who wish to contribute to our educational and promotional actions, for a greater awareness of the technologies and for a more favorable attitude towards the necessary transformations.
On November 22, representatives of the energy sector, as well as of other sectors concerned and involved in the transition, witnessed this transformation, confirming the relevance of our approach.
What does the energy transition involve?
Romania is committed to achieving a 95% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 2050, which will require changes in technologies, materials and an intensive decarbonization process. For example, it is necessary to develop hydrogen production capacities, but also infrastructure for its use. Another example is the decarbonization of some emission-intensive sectors - cement, metallurgy, etc. - through the development of CCS (carbon capture, transport and storage) technologies.
Beyond these changes in technology, a change in mindsets is needed. We need to explain to our fellow citizens the benefits of the transition: a cleaner environment, but also affordable and sufficient energy. We are also likely to witness important reconfigurations, for example some areas may change their economic profile by becoming a green hydrogen valley, which will also require retraining of the workforce, and other areas could become home to photovoltaic or wind farms.
The 10 pillars of the Energy Future
We have identified the technologies that will underpin the Romanian energy transition and for which we need to create the premises for continuous development. These are also the first 8 pillars of the Energy Future project:

We aim to highlight these pillars, the companies that develop them, the people without whom the energy transition would not be possible. The FPPG will continue to support dialog and outreach, both among specialists and the general public. The energy transition is a change of great urgency that can only become a success if we all contribute. We aim to contribute to the creation of this synergy and to continue to facilitate the achievement of the objectives that Romania and the energy sector have, for the prosperity of the whole society.
