The research was carried out using qualitative methods - focus groups/interviews - which explore the motivations, values and political dilemmas of Romanians abroad. They were conducted by IRES, in countries with a significant presence of Romanian citizens, and the analysis and presentation of the results belong to the sociologist Barbu Mateescu.

The study aims to go beyond the conjunctural explanations and interpretations that frequently appear in the public space, especially during electoral periods, and to answer the essential questions: why the diaspora votes the way they do and how they relate to Romania in general.
