Yesterday, November 27, the Federation of Oil and Gas Employers (FPPG), together with the Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD), launched the study The Natural Gas Opportunity in the Residential Sector in Romania. The report is a comprehensive investigation into the potential of natural gas to help address energy poverty in Romania and aims to draw attention to this complex economic and social issue, which affects approximately 25% of households in Romania.

The study highlights the significant role of natural gas in the energy mix of the future by direct comparison with Romania's Energy Strategy 2018-2030. The 2018 version of the National Energy Strategy makes reference to a National Gas Program that would support the extension of the natural gas network in rural areas, including as a response to the issue of energy poverty. Calculations made on the basis of statistical data on energy costs for final consumers, as well as data on the coverage of the natural gas network, indicate many opportunities for gas to be not only a transition fuel, but also a tool to combat energy poverty.
