Oil and Gas Employers Federation (FPPG) together with the Software and Services Industry Association (ANIS) organized on Tuesday, 22 October, a conference on „Digitalization in the Oil and Gas Industry: Opportunities and Challenges”
During the conference, the opportunities that the adoption of new technologies (Cloud, Big Data, Cloud Computing) can bring to the Oil & Gas industry were presented. It was also submitted study on the legal framework in Romania and the European Union for data management in the upstream sector.
The work is coordinated by specialists in the field from the law firm Reff & Asociații (member of the global Deloitte Legal network) and consists of a study on the current EU legislation, with a focus on EU Member States with operations in the upstream sector, on how to classify upstream data and how to manage this data in terms of access, archiving, transfer.
The study compares the legislation of European countries, such as Italy, Hungary, Norway and Poland, which have relevant and comparable operations with Romania in the upstream sector, and at the same time provides recommendations on the harmonization of the Romanian legal framework with the new European Regulation 2018/1807.
The study also indicates a number of concrete actions to improve the Romanian legislation in order to align with the European Regulation 2018/1807, which will also lead to increased adoption of digital solutions in the upstream sector, improve the business of stakeholders and support investors in the sector.
“At the level of the entire economy, but especially in the local and central administration in Romania, there is a need to introduce technology so that we can move towards a high-performance digital society, as is happening at European level. For this to happen, there must be cooperation between the IT industry and other industries, and the administration must become the catalyst for these projects”, said Gabriela Mechea, Executive Director of ANIS.
“There are now real prospects for development as the trend in the European Union is towards limiting the restrictions and barriers that currently exist in EU Member States on the transfer, use, storage, processing and access to non-personal data. The free movement of data implicitly leads to increased productivity and we welcome the cooperation with public authorities”, says Daniel Apostol, Director External Relations FPPG.
