On November 4, 2019, at the National Bank of Romania, Mitiță Constantinescu Hall, the conference „The Romanian economic model: Romania - 2040 horizon; the role of natural resources”, organized by România Durabilă and the Association for Economic and Social Studies and Forecasts (ASPES), was held, moderated by Adrian Măniuțiu, economic journalist EM 360.
It was attended by specialists in the field, officials of central public authorities, managers of top companies.
The topics dealt with the prospects of natural gas in Romania and its superior exploitation; the major role of natural gas in the development of the economy; taxation in the gas sector; safety and security of supply for Romanian consumers.
The following points emerged from the conference debates:
By capitalizing on natural resources, Romania has real chances for economic development, in a complex context, in which specialists in the field, consultants have been involved in conducting studies. In the context of the need for stability and predictability, 20 years, until 2040, is not a long time.
Romania has the largest reserves of natural gas in Central and Eastern Europe, ranking third in the European Union, and can become a regional hub in this field when there is a decline of natural gas in Europe. The deep offshore and onshore resources in the Black Sea can ensure energy security in the region and make it more attractive for investment, which will create an impact on the economy as a whole, creating jobs, contributing to the state budget and facilitating business opportunities for other industries. For the development of the energy sector we need regulations and a stable and predictable legislative framework.
