On the occasion of the Day of the Petrolist, FPPG thanks the tens of thousands of dedicated people, with whose effort and responsibility the beautiful story of this industry is still being written. Despite the restrictions already prolonged by a year and a half of the pandemic, oilmen have not paused, constantly providing the energy resources without which we cannot raise living standards in Romania.
Happy Birthday!
”On this anniversary day, we turn our thoughts to the people on whose shoulders Romania's oil and gas industry is built. We continue to go through a period marked by deep and overlapping crises, the management of which becomes impossible without maintaining security of energy supply. This is why the uninterrupted work of the oil workers has become all the more vital for overcoming this context. We thank them and encourage them to remain cautious and responsible, true role models for workers in all other industries.”, says Franck Neel, President of the Federation of Oil and Gas Employers (FPPG).
It is important to remember, especially on a day like today, that Romania has one of the oldest oil and gas industries in the world.
With more than 100 years of natural gas production and more than a century and a half of crude oil extraction and industrial refining, this industry has continuously supported Romania's economic development.
Today, our industry is facing new challenges such as the energy transition, the role of gas in the fuel mix in Romania and the new regulations for the free market, for which we need fast and firm measures from the state authorities to help the industry to respond to all local and global challenges.
In the context of Oil Day, celebrated annually on September 8, The oil and gas industry reiterates the urgent need for action from the authorities, such as unblocking Black Sea projects, which will allow for reduced imports and gas and energy prices in general to adjust accordingly.
„The urgent updating of the legislative framework is absolutely necessary for the sector to remain globally competitive and adapted to modern times. Unfortunately, we see how the population is increasingly affected by rising energy prices, without giving Black Sea gas a chance to enter the market as quickly as possible and thus balance costs in the coming years. The oil companies are ready and waiting, and citizens are eager to enjoy their own resources instead of imported ones, as evidenced by a multitude of studies on the favorability of the Black Sea gas project. We are waiting, at the last hour, to see if the political decision-makers are also ready and maybe, on the occasion of the day of the oilman, they will remember the urgency of this measure”, he concluded. Franck Neel.
We recall that in order to start production in the Black Sea - the largest private investment of the last decades and also one of the historic investments in the Romanian oil and gas sector - a stable and predictable legal framework is needed and, in particular, the appropriate amendment of the Offshore Law in the little time left until the window of opportunity closes.
