Christmas 2021 will be a better Christmas for 150 families and lonely elderly people living in remote areas of the Apuseni Mountains. More than 100 volunteers reached them in a marathon from morning until dusk, as part of the 13th edition of the Humanitarian Christmas Campaign organized by CERT Transylvania, which was joined by Oil and Gas Employers Federation (FPPG).

Divided into teams, 65 off-road vehicles loaded with 5 tons of food and non-food products drove hundreds of kilometers through remote areas of the Apuseni Mountains - Muntele Rece, Măguri, Mărișel and Măguri Răcătău.

The volunteers gave them 150 packages of non-perishable food of 25 kg each, vegetables, cookies, bread and 130 Santa Claus packages for children with school supplies, toys and sweets. The packages also included hygiene products, clothing, energy efficient light bulbs, batteries and medicines.

Humanitarian Christmas Campaign organized for 13 years now by CERT Transylvania has turned into a much awaited event. Not only by the needy families in the heart of the mountains where the aid reaches, but also by the volunteers who are looking forward to meeting them again.

Snow drifts and difficult trails turned into joy and hope for the volunteers as soon as they reached those in need.

Following this winter's campaign in the area of Mărișel Commune, FPPG, as a partner of CERT Transylvania, will facilitate access to electricity by installing photovoltaic panels for three houses in remote areas in the Apuseni mountains. The beneficiaries so far are two elderly people living alone, for whom a consumption of 3 kW is relatively sufficient for their domestic needs, and a third to be identified.

Mr Hristea Avram is one of them, and he lives on the outskirts of the municipality of Măguri Răcătău, isolated about 5 km from it, and, although he is affected by a rather severe form of deaf-mutism, he proudly takes care of his household and is passionate about reading. He has only a few old books which he treasures dearly and in the absence of electricity in the area where he lives, he takes advantage of every moment of natural daylight to enjoy his ancestral land.

The second person is Mrs. Rucan Rozalia, which in theory has access to electricity but lacks the resources to pay the bills.

The installed photovoltaic panels, cables, connectors, inverters, batteries and all other components of the investment of 75.000 lei could change the lives of these two people, as well as a third to be identified on the basis of urgent needs.

In addition, they will be used to build and equip a bathroom for the household of Mr. Martiniuc, who raises his three children alone in Măguri Răcătău. Previously, they also benefited from the installation of double-glazed windows and doors through a project funded by OMV Petrom.

Therefore, the FPPG has stood by CERT Transylvania in 2021, thus succeeding in bringing holiday comfort to these people in need.

„We wanted to give them some holiday cheer and the confidence that we will stand by their side, and at the end of the day, they are the ones who have given us kindness and energy for a truly happy holiday,” CERT Transylvania said.
