Oil and Gas Employers Federation (FPPG)<\/strong> launches the most comprehensive study on the dynamics of the domestic natural gas market: The Romanian Natural Gas Market. How to guarantee the security and competitiveness of the sector.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report was launched at the conference Sustainable Romania: The natural gas market - predictability, competition and liberalization held in Aula Magna - Academy of Economic Studies, Bucharest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report entitled The Romanian Natural Gas Market. How to guarantee the security and competitiveness of the sector defines and argues the reasons that prevent the development of a liberalized, fair and balanced market. The Emerton consultancy team, one of the leading EU companies headquartered in Paris, together with the FPPG, support a package of measures requiring simultaneous implementation in a sufficiently short time horizon, the latter of which will be presented during the conference. The action plan developed by Emerton's specialists, with the direct participation of the most representative companies in the energy sector, aims to address the pressing need to protect vulnerable energy consumers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dThe lack of adequate protection for vulnerable consumers limits the political acceptability of linking household tariffs to wholesale gas market prices, which perpetuates the need for non-transparent and artificially regulated tariffs that reduce the attractiveness of the retail market for new players,\u201d says Sebastien Zimmer, Emerton Partner and lead author of the study.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The action plan described at the conference organized by Sustainable Romania in partnership with ASPES (Association for Economic and Social Studies and Forecasts), ASE (Academy of Economic Studies, Bucharest), under the patronage of the Oil and Gas Employers' Federation, aims to strengthen the security of gas supply, reduce exposure to imports and ensure the competitiveness and long-term accessibility of natural gas in Romania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dWe support the affordability of natural gas for Romanian end consumers. This is possible by increasing competition on the retail market for household customers, as well as by adapting the level of protection afforded to those vulnerable consumers. We further reiterate the need to encourage investment in Romania's upstream sector. Once we succeed in improving Romania's interconnections with the EU gas market, the dependence on the quantities of natural gas transported through Ukraine will be considerably reduced. The continuation of work on the BRUA pipeline, with its two phases, will fulfill this commitment and will increase the interconnections between the Romanian and the European gas market. For that final investment decision to be taken on Black Sea gas, then predictability of the regulatory framework, market liberalization, interconnections and fiscal stability are needed. With the recent gas discoveries, Romania has an opportunity that few countries have: to ensure its energy independence and to have access to clean, versatile and sustainable energy sources\u201d, believes Mr. Franck Neel, President of FPPG.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Energy Minister Anton Anton believes that the European natural gas map is currently being reorganized thanks to the discoveries in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. According to him, recent discoveries, such as those in the Black Sea and Caragele, lead us to say that Romania is becoming an important regional energy hub and bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
