On September 24, Ion Sterian, General Director of SNTGN Transgaz SA, made a working visit to Transgaz’s Robinete No. 2 (SR2) station, the starting point of the Tuzla–Podișor gas pipeline and, at the same time, the point through which the natural gas coming from the perimeter Neptun Deep they will enter this conduit.
The visit continued at OMV Petrom Natural Gas Metering Station from Tuzla, the point where the natural gas from Neptun Deep will enter the terrestrial infrastructure. From here, the route continues towards SR2 Transgaz, Then through the Tuzla–Podișor pipeline and, further on, in the National Natural Gas Transport System.
The Tuzla station is designed for a nominal operating flow of 22.3 million Smc/day, with the possibility of reaching a maximum flow of 26.9 million Smc/day. The infrastructure is thus prepared for the moment when production from the Black Sea will begin to be integrated into the national system.
In turn, the Tuzla–Podișor pipeline, with a length of 308.3 km and a value of approximately 500 million euros, represents one of the major investments made in the Romanian natural gas transport infrastructure. The pipeline was completed in June 2025 and put into operation at the beginning of October of the same year, being ready to receive the volumes that will come from the Black Sea.
Beyond the technical dimensions of the project, the Neptun Deep – Tuzla – Podișor – National Transport System route shows very concretely what it entails to exploit an energy resource.
Domestic resources represent an advantage only when the necessary infrastructure exists to integrate them into the economy.
This means investments not only in production, but also in the receiving, measuring and transporting points, in the capacity of the National Transport System and in the connections through which energy can reach where it is needed.
For Romania, the development of natural gas production in the Black Sea and the existence of the necessary infrastructure to take over this production can strengthen access to domestic resources and support the security of supply, the industry, and the economy.
It is also a relevant example for a broader discussion about energy security: it is not enough to have resources. We must have the ability to produce them, transport them, and make them available to the economy and consumers.
The Tuzla–Podișor gas pipeline represents exactly this link between the Black Sea resource and the national energy system.
Energy security is built along the entire chain: from resources and investment, to infrastructure, and finally to the consumer.
